TODAY WAS AWESOME!!
The week boarding started rocky, remembering the basics, but today was the day it all came together. There is a certain lean tactic to snowboarding that helps you brake or slow speed, as well as turn. This can be done toe side or heel side, the pros can hit this back and forth movement (the S curve). You start gaining some momentum by pointing the board straight down the mountain and then letting an edge catch, or dig into the snow and leaning that way. Not an easy concept to lean, much less have the body know and feel the movements smoothly without falling.
The man had been working with me on this skill for ages. Towards the end of our last trip to the mountain I was on the edge of getting it down but today we experienced total success. I was afraid of the speed. It is terrifying and exhilarating all at once and I'm addicted. We had 2 good runs before we called it a day.
This is him slicing down the funny bunny slope. He's got more skill than a green slope, but he humors me and works so hard to help me progress. I'm working on getting a picture of me carving down the mountain, we'll see what we can work out.
